The purpose of this trial is to demonstrate coagulation profiles using thrombelastograph (TEG) in pediatric patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Cardiac surgery significantly impacts each patient's coagulation profile including devastating complications from both bleeding and thrombosis (blood clots). Standard protocols for the management of pediatric cardiac surgical patients do not adequately prevent coagulation problems. The thrombelastograph (TEG) is a point-of-care device which measures the physical properties of the clot, predicting whether a patient may hemorrhage or develop thrombosis and guiding treatment.

By utilizing TEG, we should be able to identify if a patient is at increased risk of thrombosis and make appropriate treatment decisions based on these results.
