Status: Full Time

Major Function:
Responsible for the overall coordination of the atrial fibrillation program.

Essential Functions :

       • Works with physicians in the clinical setting to determine a plan of care for patients.
       • Advises physician on current patient condition, including possible side effects of therapy.
       • Performs advanced nursing care, nursing assessment, and data collection for clinical research.
       • Counsels patients with respect to medical conditions and action needed, including clinical and
          surgical treatment options.
       • Assists in resolving problems related to patient care.
       • Recruits patients for research studies; acts as patient advocate, explains study purposes, and
          obtains informed consent.
       • Collects, labels, and stores blood, urine, and other specimens for analysis.
       • Monitors and evaluates patients involved in research studies, including patient response to
          therapy.
       • Coordinates clinical research data, such as: medical histories, data collection of patients' charts
          for retrospective review studies, patient physiologic performance results and laboratory
          determinations, calculations of derived information, and maintenance of general research protocols
          and complex inpatient protocols.
       • Prepares internal and external reports for physicians, research study coordinators, and/or granting
          agencies.
       • Provides in-service education to hospital and clinic staff.
       • Assists in organizing and preparing collected data for subsequent analysis and publication.
       • Attends and participates in meetings related to new and current clinical trials.
       • Maintains inventory of investigational drugs and/or devices.
       • Responds to internal and/or external auditor requests.
       • Attends occasional out-of-town professional meetings.
       • Performs other duties as assigned.

May perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Prerequisites:
Required: Licensed registered nurse (Associate’s degree) or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare field. At least 5 years experience in Cardiology and/or Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Preferred: Licensed registered nurse (Bachelor’s degree) or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare field. At least 8 years experience in Cardiology and/or Cardiothoracic Surgery. Two years experience in Cardiac Electrophysiology preferred.

Organizational Relationships:
       • Accountable to Clinical Research Manager for all phases of activities.
       • Consults, and coordinates with other members of the research team and members of the
          organization.
